Problem

A young adult presents for evaluation of a 5-day history of sore throat, otalgia, rhinorrhea, frequent sneezing, and dry cough. They endorse concomitant malaise and intermittent mild headaches. Although their symptoms are not debilitating, they have difficulty focusing on work. They have no pertinent past medical or family history. On physical examination, their temperature is 99.3 °Fahrenheit, blood pressure 118/72 mm Hg, pulse rate 82/min, and peripheral oxygen saturation 98% on ambient air. Their nose is erythematous, and there is a trace clear, watery discharge from both nostrils. The lungs are clear on auscultation. The remainder of the examination is non-contributory.
