Assignment: A teacher is responsible for creating a learning environment that activates internal motivation for all students. This task often comes with an identification of learning preferences, interactive activities, or various engagement techniques. Taking the time to understand your students and how they learn is the first step in advocating for a positive learning experience.
Allocate at least 2 hours in the field for this field experience.
For this assignment, you will need to identify a time with your mentor teacher to observe the class, interview your mentor teacher, and collaborate with your mentor teacher on the need for motivation and engagement in the classroom environment. During the observation, make note of student engagement strategies used by your mentor teacher.
Use any remaining field experience hours to assist the teacher in providing instruction and support to the class.
In 500-750 words, summarize the observation and collaborative discussion to address the following:
1. Where does engagement fit into the creation of a lesson plan?
2. Why is engagement essential for successful learning?
3. How do motivation and engagement work together and independently from one another?
4. Describe the factors that would cause the same motivation techniques to not work equally for all students. What strategies do you recommend that will motivate all students?
5. What are your personal experiences with motivation and engagement in the learning environment? How will these, along with what you learned from this field experience, assist you in your future professional practice?
