There is an understanding that a certain degree of social inequality may be unavoidable due to natural abilities and the demand for these abilities, how much inequality is 'too much'? In other words, where do we draw a line as a society?

We have witnessed a dramatic loss of small business due to COVID shut downs, while we have also seen gains on part of large businesses, Amazon as one example. Is this truly 'free market? (Q1) and is the problem capitalism as a system or monopolistic forms of capitalism (Q 2)?
Some propose more government involvement in the economy (redistribution, UBI etc) as a means to remedy this. However, others fear more expansion of government intervention or the mis-use of power in the government will not be beneficial. Your thoughts?
