Question: The patient presented to the hospital urgent care center, complaining of a swollen right upper eyelid for the past 2 days. She stated that the swelling was increasing and putting more and more pressure on her eye. The eyelashes were affecting her vision as the angle of the lashes had changed due to the swelling. She reported a history of surgery to her sinus on the right side about 2 months ago. On physical exam the physician noted that the right eyelid and sur-rounding tissue was severely swollen and had a focal area consistent with an internal hordeolum. The assessment was internal hordeolum of right eyelid with secondary orbital cellulitis and the physician prescribed cephalexin 500 mg 4 times a day for 7 days and cortisporin ophthalmic ointment twice daily to the eye. The physician advised washing the eyelid with Johnson's No More Tears baby shampoo twice daily, using good handwashing technique, and not touching either eye during the healing process, except for treatments as above.
