Discussions- Pepon Osorio
In this discussion I would like you to look at a YouTube video about the artist, Pepon Osorio. It is a short video of only 12 minutes or so. Pepon Osorio's visual form are what we call "installations," which work like tableaus similar to other artists, like Kienholz.
What we want from you is a genuine response to what you see in the video. By "genuine" we mean what you really think about the art work, instead of something positioned to please the readers or the instructor. Think back to insights you learned from doing your art worksheet and use those strategies.
To start a thread, read into the installations what they remind you of and then compare it to what Osorio (the narrator) is saying about his work. He talks about his work as if they are scenes from his up-bringing and adult past.
Some additional kickstarters for your writing might include:
- Do the installations that Osorio puts together remind you of familiar things?
- Does the work seem difficult to understand in anyway.
- is there satire somewhere?
- Is this similar to something in your experience?
