Question: You are the closest sibling to Raj in the family. He turned to you when your parents tried to arrange a marriage for him which caused him to become depressed. He introduced you to his ex partners and always felt like he could trust you and count on you for anything. You are his biggest support and advocate. He has turned to you recently after being kicked out by his last partner and lives with you and your 5 year old daughter, with whom he loves. You know your brother is capable of change and living a more positive and fulfilling life. The anger management program wasn't suitable for him and that's why it didn't work. You are hoping for a more effective plan with strategies he can actually follow. A big problem following a plan last time was the review and evaluation part. Raj wasn't reviewed properly and no next steps were established for him. This contributed to the relapse in his behaviour.
In your discussion with the student and additional participant you should: § Ask questions around the proposed services or programs included within the plan - how they work and the benefits of the services or programs. § Negotiate on one service proposed - question the geographical location of the service - how hard will it be to travel? Is there something closer? Etc. Reach an agreement in conjunction with the client. § Ask about the skill/knowledge and experience level of the support worker who will be involved in Raj's plan. § Ask about rights to appeal or complain just in case you or Raj are unhappy about something § Ask what you need to do to support your brother in the process § Ask about who will be reviewing or updating the plan after Raj has achieved his goal - what next? § Ask about the exit/closure process § Agree on the services proposes by the student § Seem hopeful about next steps.
