Question: Tim and Jen are pregnant with their first child. They come to you with Jen's family history of cystic fibrosis. Neither Jen or her two siblings have cystic fibrosis, but their father did have the disorder and died young from the disease. Tim's paternal grandmother also had cystic fibrosis, but his father did not. Tim also does not have the disorder. There is no evidence of the disorder on Tim's mom's side of the family. Tim and Jen are now worried that their unborn child has a chance of having the genetic disorder. As a genetic counsellor, please make a pedigree chart for them, that indicates what their genotypes are. They ask you to tell them the chance that their child will have the disorder.
