Conducting Work Health and Safety Review
For this part of the assessment, you will be required to conduct a work health and safety review in your organisation.
This part is divided into two (2) tasks:
Conduct safety inspection.
Conduct review of work health and safety procedures.
Part 1 - Safety Inspection
This part requires you to conduct a safety inspection of your vocational workplace. The objective is to identify hazards, assess associated risks, and develop control measures to risks identified.
Read all instructions carefully before proceeding.
Steps to take:
Locate the Workplace Safety Inspection Sheet found on the following pages.
Have your supervisor sign the authorisation section on the form allowing you to access the workplace and conduct a WHS inspection.
Conduct the inspection following the checklist provided on the Workplace Inspection Sheet. For every area in the workplace, provide a risk rating by indicating N/A (not applicable), Low, Medium, High, or Extreme in the Risk Rating column.
Record any associated risks, and at least one (1) recommended control measure for each area inspected, where applicable.
Part 2 - Work Health and Safety Review
This part requires you to conduct a review of work health and safety procedures in your organisation, as part of managing work health and safety.
The review will cover the processes relevant to work health and safety in your organisation. Specifically, this will cover procedures on:
Risk management and risk control
Incident/hazard reporting
Consultation, cooperation, and communication
Evaluation and maintenance of WHS
Emergency management
Steps to take:
Locate the WHS Review Form found on the following pages.
Have your supervisor sign the authorisation section on the form allowing you to access the workplace and conduct a WHS review.
Conduct the review following the items provided on the WHS Review Form.
Have your supervisor sign the completed WHS Review Form.
Scan and save the completed and signed form using the filename: Subject 1 - WHS Review.
Develop Work Health and Safety Action Plans
This part requires you to develop action plans as part of managing work health and safety. Specifically, you will be required to develop an action plan for the following:
Risk management
Identifying work health and safety training needs
Record-keeping for work health and safety. Each action plan you develop must include:
Step-by-step procedures or strategies
Consultation
Ownership (who is responsible for implementing and monitoring policies and procedures)
Monitoring and review processes of the action plan.
Deliver a Work Health and Safety Induction
For this part of the assessment, you are required to conduct a work health and safety induction. If this cannot be performed in the actual workplace, you can perform a simulated induction with at least two (2) personnel from the workplace.
