The goals of public health are to improve overall population health and to prevent health problems. Given this, public health policy seeks legislative action at the local, state, and federal levels to improve population health.

For this assignment, you will research a public health problem and examine subsequent policy solutions designed to ameliorate the problem. You will identify a public health problem in your community and conduct your own research into the actions taken by either the local, state, or federal government to resolve the problem.

Complete the following:

• Identify and research a public health problem in your community.

• Describe the public health problem you researched.

• Describe the results of your research into the problem. Ensure that your results take into account local, state, or federal government intervention.

• What were the goals of the intervention and have they been met?

• Do you agree with the government's approach? Explain why or why not.

• Based on your assigned readings, describe which agency in the Department of Health and Human Services organizational chart you believe would be involved in the government's initiative to solve the problem and explain why.
