Why is observing children important?

I noticed a four-year-old child named Lily in a quiet area of the neighborhood library. She is accustomed to the library and frequently goes there with her mother. She was reading a picture book about farm animals by herself today. Because I know Lily, it was simple for me to watch her without making her feel uncomfortable.

Lily was sitting cross-legged on a small rug when I started my observation, her back upright, and her small hands grasping the picture book. She focused so intently that her nose practically touched the pages as she leaned closer. She occasionally brushed her impatiently away from her dark curls, which framed her face. Lily's brown eyes were glued to the book, and her fingers traced the drawings of the cows, chickens, and pigs as she silently "read" the story. She chuckled gently now and then, especially when she found hidden subtleties in the artwork. Her involvement with the book was impressive and showed how passionate she was about literature and storytelling.
