Assignment - Motivation in Action: Designing Your Ideal Job Assignment Description: This assignment challenges you to apply motivation theories and job design principles to create a position that would maximize your own motivation and performance.
Instruction: Personal Motivation Profile: Based on the need-based theories (Maslow, ERG, Two-Factor, Acquired Needs), identify which needs currently motivate you most strongly. Are you primarily driven by achievement, affiliation, or power? Where are you on Maslow''s hierarchy? Explain your reasoning with examples. Job Design Application: Using the Job Characteristics Theory, design your "ideal job" for five years from now. For each of the five core dimensions (skill variety, task identity, task significance, autonomy, feedback), describe specific features your ideal job would include. Explain how these features would create the three critical psychological states for you. Expectancy Analysis: Think about a time when you were highly motivated to achieve something (academic, athletic, work-related, etc.). Analyze that situation using Expectancy Theory. No AI shortcuts — Get genuine assignment help from experienced, real tutors.
What was your effort-to-performance expectancy? Performance-to-outcome expectancy? What was the valence of the outcome? Now describe a situation where you lacked motivation-which component of the expectancy model was missing or weak? Reward System Preferences: What combination of rewards (direct compensation, benefits, recognition, flexibility, etc.) would motivate you most effectively? Consider both surface value and symbolic value. How might your reward preferences change at different career stages? Grading Criteria:
Grading Focus: Thoughtful application of multiple motivation theories. Realistic and detailed job design using Job Characteristics Theory
Accurate use of Expectancy Theory framework
Recognition of individual differences and how preferences change
Integration of personal insights with course concepts
