Assessment Task: You are required to record a 12-minute video in which you deliver a PowerPoint presentation to the camera. The subject of the presentation is appraisal of nursing leadership and its application to the co-ordination of care for a patient with complex health needs.

The following must provide the basis for your presentation.

Use an experience to base your presentation on where you were part of the team who provided care to a patient who had complex health conditions. Concentrate your exploration of leadership on one nurse who is registered with the Nurse Midwifery Council (NMC), this may be your practice supervisor, your practice assessor or a staff nurse leading the care for this patient.

Briefly introduce the patient and what was perceived as complex - set the scene for the watcher (the person who is marking your recorded PowerPoint presentation)

Analyse the leadership and care decisions this registered nurse had to consider for this patient to ensure safe patient care by considering the following questions
Explore and examine one theory you have read about leadership and apply this to your chosen nurse.

What aspects of this leadership theory (leadership style) did you see the nurse apply in action?
What was the influence of this nurse's leadership style in managing and coordinating complex care?
Can you identify any significant factors that the nurse had to consider when co-ordinating care for this particular patient? e.g. resource, policy, politics, economic factors etc.
Can you identify the nurses' strengths and weaknesses in their leadership style in meeting the patient's complex healthcare needs?

Conclude your presentation by identifying what you have learnt from this experience and how it will influence and impact your future development and practice (LO 1-4).
