Case Study: Stacy is a 25-year-old, Hispanic woman. She has been seeing you in counseling sessions for the past three weeks due to experiencing some feelings of depression. You completed an initial assessment and began working with her. Stacy does not take any medication. She did not want to have an assessment for medications with a psychiatrist. Stacy is the oldest of three children from a very close family. She lost an uncle this past year to Covid-19 and her entire extended family system is grieving this loss. She is in very good physical health with no significant medical history.

Stacy lives on her own in an apartment and works as a legal secretary. She is excellent at her job and receives glowing evaluations at work. Recently, her best friend did not invite her to a party. She tells you that she thinks that her boyfriend is cheating on her with that friend. Stacy comes to session and tells you that she feels completely overwhelmed, hopeless, and stuck. Stacy also reports to you that she recently started to have suicidal ideations. As the social worker, you explore with her those scary thoughts. From your original assessment with Stacy, you know that she suffered from chronic self-esteem issues and struggled with an eating disorder in high school. She made a vague reference to a trauma in her childhood but didn't offer more information even when you have questioned her about possible trauma.
