The project consists of developing a logic model, evaluation plan, and data collection instrument. These three pieces of work will be based on the details provided in the project synopsis (below).
Synopsis: Evaluate an obesity reduction program
In many cases, these young adults enter college and begin to gain weight, often called the "Freshmen 15". These students gain as much as 15 pounds and fail to eliminate the weight as they matriculate. In some cases, these students maintain the weight after graduation, into their adult lives.
You have been approached to evaluate an obesity reduction program implemented at the University by the university clinic nurse and a two-person support team. The program aims to recruit and inform undergraduate students about lifestyle behaviors (i.e., nutrition, physical activity) for the purpose of managing their weight. A total of 50 students were recruited. The inclusion criteria were being a student at the university and having time to attend one 45-minute educational session and being able to access online learning modules throughout the 4-week program. The obesity reduction program was grounded in the social cognitive theory and relied on two constructs of 1) expectations and 2) self-efficacy.
program goals:
1- increase the participant's awareness of the factors that influence weight
2- increase the participants' application of healthy eating choices (nutrition) and increase the minutes of physical activity
3- improve the physiological variables for the participants
3a- reduce participants' weight (in pounds) from baseline to post 6-weeks program
3b- reduce participants' waist circumference (in inches) from baseline to post-6-week program
Points to consider when developing your logic model, evaluation plan, and instrument:
What will you evaluate? When will you evaluate? Why? Whom will you evaluate? How will you evaluate?
What are your SMART objectives for the process, outcome, and/or impact evaluation?
What variables will you study for the process, outcome, and impact evaluations?
What scale would you apply for each of the variables?
When preparing your instrument, how will you apply the constructs of the theory?
