Question: Assume that two candidates are competing in an election. Each has the goal of maximizing her vote share. Assume that proposed policies can be arrayed along a single policy dimension from left to right, with 0 equaling the most liberal position and 100 the most conservative position. Also assume each voter will vote for the candidate that proposes a policy closest to his/her ideal point and that there are no abstentions. Finally, assume both candidates know each voter's ideal point and the voters are perfectly informed about the candidates' proposals. 1. If the voters are distributed as follows along the policy dimension, where would we expect the two candidates to locate? (i.e. what value on the scale would they propose?)
