After spending time looking through the manuscript, write up some thoughts about your experience in a discussion post. Here are some prompts for your discussion (you do not need answer all of these questions - you can pick one or two or make an observation of your own):
What surprised you about the manuscript when you had a chance to look through it?
How, specifically, do you think the modern experience of viewing the manuscript on the computer is different from the experience of a medieval reader viewing the manuscript within a monastery?
In the first lecture video of this unit we explored a number of pages of the Lindisfarne Gospels, produced in a similar time and place. What strikes you as similar and different when comparing the Book of Kells with that manuscript?
Think about the process of designing the book - what was included, how it was laid out, and then how it was made. What kinds of things do you think the designer was prioritizing? What kind of experience were they tryingi to create for the reader?
Are there any particularly interesting details that you noticed on a specific page
