For each scenario, think about how you would approach each situation with the child. How would you handle the emotional needs of a child during drop-off? What steps would you take to manage a nappy change with a child who seems reluctant? And how would you handle the request from a carer regarding safe sleep practices for an infant? Scenario

Question 1. Emma, a twenty-four (24) month old girl, arrives with her grandmother, who has been bringing her to the classroom for the past few months. When they enter the classroom, Emma clings to her grandmother's neck and begins to look around nervously. It's clear that she's feeling anxious about being dropped off for the day. Her grandmother gently reassures her, saying, "You'll have fun with your friends here, sweetie. You'll see Mommy after your nap," but Emma doesn't want to let go of her grandmother and starts to tear up, holding onto her grandmother even tighter. The classroom is bustling with activity, but Emma's distress is obvious.

Question 2. Meanwhile, Eighteen (18) month old Lola is playing on the floor with a toy car, but she suddenly begins fidgeting and pulling at her nappy. She looks at the educator and seems a little uncomfortable, and it's clear she needs a nappy change. She continues to play, but she seems reluctant to stop and get changed. As Lola sits down again, she glances over at her friends playing nearby and looks hesitant to leave them. She might not be thrilled about stopping playtime for a nappy change, but it's clear that it's time for one.

Question 3. At the same time, Noah, a ten (10) month-old, is getting ready for his morning nap. His grandfather, who has just dropped him off, brings over a soft, plush teddy bear and a cozy blanket he's brought from home. He explains to the educator that Noah loves these items for comfort, especially during nap time. He gently places the teddy bear on Noah's lap and adjusts the blanket. "Please make sure he has these with him while he naps. It helps him settle down and feel more secure," grandpa says with a warm smile. Noah looks a little sleepy, and his grandfather seems to want to ensure he has the familiar items from home before he rests.
