Case Study: There are many hurdles that nursing students today face while going to school. Students may face financial hurdles if they do not have scholarships or grants. Students may have to work full time while going to school. Students also face time management. The student may be working a full-time job while going to school full time. Perhaps the student is also a new mom or have small children at home. Juggling kid's transportation to school, school work or extra-curricular activities places increased stress to the student. Minority students face selective admission process. Just getting in to nursing school can pose a challenge. Perhaps the student is a first-generation student in their family and a lot of pressure to succeed is placed upon them. "There are barriers and biases that these students experience such as academic skills, perceived perceptions about their abilities, lack of faculty role models, limited peer support, and major financial issues that 'majority' students do not have to deal with on a daily basis. Many minority students also struggle with the very basics of housing and food." (Wojciechowski, 2021).
Question: What are your challenges? What steps have you taken to combat them. If you are not comfortable stating your challenges, state what challenges you have seen your co students have and suggestions to combat or assist them to overcome?
