Question
John presents as an adult male of Italian descent. He does not give you his pronouns but describes himself as an Italian male and his partner as an Irish female. John and his partner have one child. He and his partner have been together for twenty years, and John is fifty-one. John's familial life growing up was difficult. His father was absent at best and distant when around, and his mother was a hypochondriac and narcissist. John has four siblings, one older brother and three older sisters. John felt that his mother often disparaged him in comparison to his siblings, while John's father was more interested in his one true love, soccer. John's siblings resented him as being the golden child. When John and his partner decided to live together, John's family reluctantly accepted them. Still, while accepting their living situation, his family clarified that they did not approve of "living in sin." John's partner has no family.
In the next session with John, he reveals that he is not happy and feels like he is an imposter sliding through life. John states that his partner is unbalanced and controlling. John feels melancholic most of the time and is constantly tired. He states he could spend almost every day in bed. He has been sleeping more than ten hours daily and avoiding work. At work, John has been called shady based on his ethnicity. John feels stuck and does not know how to cope with these feelings.
1. What social factors, through the social framework, and how the therapist would build the session.
2. What culturally/just factors, through the culturally just framework , and how the therapist would build the session.
