1. What is the social class of the author? (This asks you to think about Jeannette growing up AND Jeannette as a successful adult...does her social class change, or does she remain in the same social class mentally, no matter that she is financially successful as an adult?)
2. What social classes do her parents (the characters) represent?
3. What "signifiers/clues" are used to help you know the class of the characters?
4. How do characters from different classes interact or conflict?
5. Are any of the characters based on class stereotypes?
6. How is work and labor presented in the story?
7. Who are the "good guys" and "bad guys"? Who oppresses whom?
8. How do characters overcome oppression or try to escape from class expectations?
9. What does the text say about oppression; or are social conflicts ignored or blamed elsewhere?
10. In what ways does the text serve as propaganda for the status quo? (That is, does it try to argue that the class structure works just fine the way it is and shouldn't be deviated from?)
