This format provides a framework to develop, organize and write a research paper. The three sections represent categories: biographical; social context, analysis of achievement, and reflection on the individual's place in women's history.
I. Biographical: The biographical study emphasizes the activist/philosopher's life and greatly enriches the understanding of his/her work. It is a chronology of the individual' development.
What to look for:
1. Full name,
2. Birth and death dates,
3. Education, formal or informal,
4. Religion,
5. Any significant Relationships.
II. Social Context: The contextual study emphasizes the individual's social context; the time and place of the person's life. It is an approach that examines how the person's life and work reflects feminist issues regarding culture, ethnicity, religion and society.
Possibilities:
1. What prevailing ideas and beliefs were either rejected and/or embodied in the individual's body of work?
2. What kind of gender, religious, socioeconomic, political, and nationalistic forces shaped this individual's character?
3. What events, incidents or challenges had a positive or negative effect upon this individual?
4. What significant historical events, if any, influenced her work?
5. If her work was challenged or opposed: By whom? Why and when?
III. Analysis of Achievement: Reflect upon the individual. Should this woman be better known in the history of women?

IV. Conclusion
What to look for:
1. What meaning does the individual's ideas/work have for you?
2. Does this individual connect to your ideas in some way?
3. Does it make you more aware of yourself and your world?
4. Do you believe that your individual deserves to be better known?
