Sustainable development is an idea that has been talked about globally for years. But there is often multiple definitions of sustainable development. Some people value sustainability more that development and vice versa. The main issue you see is through sustainable developments three main pillars; environmental, economic, and social. It is almost impossible to have one without sacrificing at least a little of the others. There are also many differing views of what should be developed and what should be sustained.
Even when these issues are brought into fruition at UN summits developed and developing countries often disagree on these issues. Even though plans have been made at these summits, goals have failed to be turned into action. That is the main issue I see is in order to make these plans work people must be willing to ask for a change and be willing to make the big decisions to change. Despite this, the mistrust between Northern and Southern countries will always make sustainable development a struggle.
