Discussion:
Situational Influences include Geographical, religious, and economic factors that have a significant impact on the nature of interpersonal interactions within a community. The dispositional influences on a person are the characteristics that influence how he or she behaves and acts. Dispositional factors include personality traits, temperament, and genetics. Based on situationism, the immediate environment and surroundings determine our behavior and actions. As opposed to this, dispensationalism holds that our internal characteristics determine our behavior. When viewed from a situational perspective, inappropriate behavior is excused, while when viewed from a dispositional perspective, it is blamed. Dispositional influences are the assumption that a person's behavior reflects his internal dispositions like his personality, beliefs, attitude, etc. An external influence such as the environment or culture influences a person's behavior according to situational attribution.
Question 1) These are great points. this discussion highlights that the attributions we apply to others can be influenced by situational or dispositional factors. What role could mindfulness training have on our application of dispositions to certain behaviors or roles we see in others? Could this impact the type of attributes we apply to someone else's behavior? How do we know if our attributions are accurate?
Question 2) great explanation for both. How does our religion play a role in our interpersonal interaction? Do you think it has a huge role in dispositional influence? What about on situational? Do you think it would be hard for some one of religious background to be in a bad situation around non religious people to still maintain their internal disposition? How would culture influence a person;s behavior?
