Assignment
Your recent trip to Malaysia was eye opening for you. You had not realized that Muslim women and students of modest means from Afghanistan, Indonesia, China, and France had such opportunities to study abroad together at a beautiful American-Malaysian campus with impressive facilities and international, qualified faculty. Nor were you aware of Turkey's emerging opportunities for internationalization until you heard Cagri Bagcioglu's interview.
How do leaders in higher education institutions---like these in Malaysia and Turkey---ensure quality and diversity at their campuses? This week you will examine economic and social issues behind related higher education initiatives in the country you chose in Week 1. You will analyze how these initiatives are designed to benefit your particular country and its citizens in the face of unique challenges and globalization.
Write supporting your ideas from the resources and websites you have researched. The paper should address the following questions:
In what ways does the country you researched in Week 1 strive for quality in higher education?
What quality and accountability frameworks support this quest for quality? Describe any organizations established for the purpose of promoting quality.
What impact, if any, has the Bologna Accord had on your chosen country?
Besides being involved in or inspired by the Bologna Accord, how is your chosen country responding to issues of access, consistency in awarding credits, and study abroad credit transfer? Alternately, cite problems in higher education leadership that has thwarted such initiatives.
