Assignment: Experiences in Kenyas Educational System Essay

You will interview one person who was educated in another country than the one you were educated in. Using the educational autobiography framework, you will interview the person to discover similarities and differences in your educational experiences. After you've written up the interview, you will write a reflection on the differences in your educational experiences. Your final assignment should include the interview responses and your reflection.

1) Traditional Written Essay

2) Powerpoint, Prezi, Flipgrid, Google Slides or some other similar program/format (however many slides it takes you to fully answer the questions)

Poem, Song, Narrative/Short Story (from the perspective of your younger self), or other visual/artistic representation (may require short written or video component to help explain it)--these are my favorite!

Use the following questions as a guide. You need to talk about both the identity and Educational Experiences components, and you can add more info than is asked in the questions:

1) Identity:

a) How do you identify with regards to race, class, gender, sexual orientation, language, and/or ability?

b) What privileges did you have and/or barriers did you face because of these identities (both inside and outside of school)?

c) What are some key out-of-school experiences/events impacted your experiences as a learner and views about teaching and learning?

d) What key people impacted your experiences as a learner and peaked your interest in becoming a teacher or entering your chosen field/career path?

2) Key Educational Experiences:

a) What key educational experiences shaped your views on teaching and learning?

b) Identify and discuss some positive AND negative learning/teaching experiences and how they have shaped you as a learner and inform your journey and goals in your current/future role.

c) Identify and discuss any major social and/or political events that occurred during your K-12 education and how, if at all, they impacted your experiences in school and your journey into teaching or your chosen field/career
