The President

Article II of the Constitution created the presidency. Yet most of the Article deals with how we elect presidents and how we remove them. Why is there no reference to "the people" in the process to elect the president?

In place of individual citizens, who does Article II empower with tremendous influence in the process? (Don't write "the electoral college" because the words are nowhere in the entire Constitution).

Once we have analyzed the system in place for electing the president, what process do you think would be better? Or do you think the process we have works well enough without modification?

Who has the power to impeach?

Who has the power to convict?

Why would the Framers establish a system like this for removal of the "president, vice president and all other civil officers?"

What powers are listed in Article II for the president?

Is there a general theme running through the powers allocated to the president?

Discuss why these powers would be given to this official and not Congress or the Courts.

Discuss why the president wasn't given more power.

Discuss the possibility of why we have one president and not more than one.

Discuss criticisms of the office, the length of term for the office and the succession process for when a president may die, resigns or be removed.

Is this the best process for filling the vacancy?

Are the requirements for the office too strict? Too lenient?

What would you add/remove to the requirements if given the opportunity to add a constitutional amendment addressing this concern?
