You will explore your family history to see the types of careers that could influence your career choice. You will be building a genogram based upon the heritage from your mother and father's side of the family. This will allow you to trace your roots, but also see the types of careers and education that have or will have influenced your evolution.
Question 1: Construct your family genogram to include your great grandparents, grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins and siblings giving the name, highest educational level and occupation of each family member. You could draw out your genogram on paper or use a computer software like Microsoft Office Publisher. Use the symbol square for males and circles for females.
Question 2: Write a two-page (double spaced) narrative about your genogram that incorporates answers these five (5) questions:
• Are there differences/ similarities on both sides (maternal and paternal) of your genogram?
• What patterns or unusual patterns did you find?
• What major events or trends may have impacted the educational level and occupations of your family members?
• What did you learn about your family and yourself from doing this exercise?
• How will this information impact your educational achievement and future career choices?
