Question: In this assignment, virtually all of the sources presented should be academic. A literature review summarizes and synthesizes the best research findings on a selected topic. These are likely to be more sociological and psychological in nature, but historical examinations and general evaluation research into the outcomes of social justice programs will be very useful, as well (especially for writing your final class assignment). At least six sources (five of which should be academic journal articles) should be thoroughly reviewed and the information synthesized.

In addition, when selecting resources to include in your literature reviews, you should remember that the articles you choose should help you answer the following questions in relation to your topic:

How can you advocate for change?
What past failures to address this social injustice can inform new efforts?
What has worked in the past that can be revised?
How can an advocacy campaign gain allies among the general population and among those in power?
Finally, last semester I had quite a few students ask about the length of the literature review, so if this is a concern for you, that's not a simple answer, but a rough estimate would be about 8 pages EXCLUDING the cover and reference pages. The paper should be set up as follows:

Introduction- present your topic
You will want to write about half a page on each source (you have to use a minimum of six sources)
You will write a couple paragraphs on how these sources connect to each other and how they will be useful in creating an advocacy plan- these can be a few sentences in-between your discussions of the articles or after you have presented the research (articles/studies).
Conclusion-basically tell why you chose these particular articles- how does what others researched help you develop your plan.
