Exercise 3.2a - Medical Record Availability
1. The data is measuring medical record availability (in percentages) for a busy urban community clinic. Using Excel, create a grouped frequency distribution table and display the distribution on a histogram. Describe the shape of the distribution.
2. Provide a numerical description of the distribution using summary statistics obtained from the data analysis function in Excel (refer to the reference located in the Course Documents section for assistance with installing and using the data analysis function). What number represents the center of the distribution? What number would you use to describe the spread or variability in the distribution?
Exercise3.2b - Where are the Nurses?
1. The table gives the number of active nurses per 100,000 people in each state. Create a grouped frequency distribution and make a histogram that displays the distribution of nurses per 100,000 people. Write a brief description of the distribution. Are there any outliers? If so, can you explain them? Describe the distribution and identify any outliers.
2. Why is the number of nurses per 100,000 people a better measure of the availability of nurses than a simple count of the number of nurses in a state?
