Great selection, Brayan! I've always loved this poem and it is nice to revisit is as fall is upon us. | appreciate the gentle tone of your analysis because, as you point out, Longfellow's depiction of hauntings are not the least bit threatening. | love your observation that:

"Longfellow's idea that houses are "haunted" by memories is actually kind of beautiful and comforting. It makes sense that a house would hold onto the feelings and history of the people who lived there." Get the instant assignment help.

His imagery is delicate and reverberates beautifully with the stories of who and what came before us. He also reminds us that, one day, we will be a memory or invisible presence. While the whole poem is gorgeous, my favorite stanza has always been:

"The spirit-world around this world of sense
Floats like an atmosphere, and everywhere
Wafts through these earthly mists and vapours dense
A vital breath of more ethereal air."
