A client walks into session, talking rapidly, repeating herself often, presenting on the verge of tears, all factors making it difficult to follow her. The client stated the following:
I really need to talk to you. I don't know where to start. I just got my last exam back and it was a disaster, maybe cause I haven't studied much lately. I was up late drinking at a party last night and I almost passed out I have been sort of going out with a guy for the last month, but that's over as of last night... (pause). But what really bothers me is that my mom and dad called last Monday and they are going to separate. I know that they have fought a lot but I never thought it would come to this. I'm thinking of going home, but I'm afraid to.
