Assignment:

PROMPT:

An adaptation is a heritable trait that is the result of natural selection. Adaptations maintain or increase an organism's survival and/or reproduction in a particular environment.

OBJECTIVE

What's your favorite adaptation?

Consider organisms that you find interesting, exciting, weird, etc. Amazing adaptations can be found in plants, animals, fungi, and even microbes

Your task is to provide and explain an example of a key adaptation in a species of your choice. In particular, you should describe why the trait is an adaptation: how does it benefit the organism in survival and/or reproduction? You should also define the tradeoffs of the adaptation. What cost, risk, or other negative outcomes may result from the adaptation? The tradeoffs might be real (the negative outcome has been observed in nature) or potential (the tradeoff may occur with changes in the environment). You should include a visual aid to show how the adaptation works to benefit the species.

Your answer as a written answer with photos, or you are welcome to produce a poster, just so long as visuals are included along with your answer.
