Natural resources are products of both natural and cultural processes which determine what is "useful" in specific historical circumstances. Depending on which slices of the natural environment are counted as "resources," there will be heated debates over whether or not specific key resources are scarce or "running out." In this course, we have covered three distinct perspectives on natural resource scarcity.

1) Malthusian and Neo-Malthusian
