Question: A 56-year-old man presents to his dermatologist for evaluation of a lesion on his nose (see figure below). He has had other similar lesions on his face that were treated with surgical excision. He is of Irish descent and has a long history of sun exposure from working as a farmer. On physical examination, the patient has clear evidence of sun damage and looks much older than his stated age. There are well-healed surgical scars on his forehead, nose, and left cheek. An erythematous, smooth papule with a translucent surface is observed on the left side of the patient's nose. Answer - melanoma.
