For a satellite phone antenna communication link at 10GHz. Assume the phone to be hand-held(i.e no pencil -beam emitted, fold-out antennas might be an option) and a LEP (low earth orbit) satellite at a height of 780KM. Keep in mind that a LEO satellite is moving with respect to earth's surface. Pick state-of-the-art amplifier electronics etc.
One way for instance is t use thermal noise as the limiting factor, with a temperature of 290K on ground, and less than 50K for the satellite, with impedances matched to antenna impedances. Assume reasonable maximum sizes of both the satellite antenna and the hand-held phone antenna, and reasonable values for the power available on ground and for the satellite.
