Question: Case Study
Anna Majewski, a 28-year-old registered nurse, was caring for a client who presented to the emergency department (ED) with a draining abdominal wound sustained from an auto accident 3 weeks ago. The client stated, "I have been treating it like the doctor said, but it is getting worse every day. " The ED physician ordered the wound to be irrigated. As Ms. Majewski irrigated the wound, the spray inadvertently squirted over Ms. Majewski's face shield and into her eyes. Ms. Majewski flushed her eyes per agency protocol. The nurse taking the client's medical history elicited that the client has a positive recent history of hepatitis B.

Question 2: How could this situation be prevented from occurring in the future?
Question 3: What are the priority interventions for the client and for Ms. Majewski?
