The tasks
You are a new data scientist hired by Maritime Road and Traffic Authority(MRTA) earlier known as Road and Traffic Authority. Monitoring parking, speeding, etc. comes under Maritime Road and Traffic Authority. Drivers violating the rules are given traffic infringement penalties. Traffic infringement notice payment data set is provided to you
There are many issues with the traffic infringement system. Some of them are: Traffic infringement penalties come in the post; Drivers are issued paper tickets if parked illegally, etc... These make system very inefficient.
You are also required to plan a future proofing data-driven information system to better facilitate the payment of infringement notices and improve payment efficiency.
You have been requested to prepare a report. Your target audience is executive people from MRTA, who have extensive business experience but limited ICT knowledge. They would like to be informed as to how new technologies may be beneficial to develop new traffic infringement notice payment system. Please note that standard report structure, including an executive summary, must be adhered to.
You are required to identify the problems associated with daily traffic infringement notice payment and suggest a solution to solve the identified problems. The main body of the report should include the following topics.
From the given data set identify:
- Which day of weak is the maximum number of infringement payment done? Draw Histogram to show this;
To find out this you are required to find out when is the maximum infringement payment done and then relate it to calendar date and day. The data provided to you is from year 2013-2019. Draw Histogram of each year. And then find out which date the maximum infringement payment done.
- What is the most used channel of payment; Draw Pie chart to show this.
- Find the correlation between the day and the number of infringement payment made. Generate a dashboard which can provide the above information.
In moving forward you need to discuss how different types of analytics can solve the problems of traffic infringement notice payment of MART. In your report you need to discuss the followings:
1. Data Collection and Storage
- Data collection system (what kind of data should be collected and how)
- Storage system (what are the requirements to the storage and how to achieve them)
2. Data in Action
- Consumer-centric product design (what is it and how to do it)
- Recommendation system (what is it and how to do it). You are required to suggest a system related to the payment of fines based on different transaction types. Can you suggest a recommendation system to make user aware of not paying fines. This system will identify who has paid the fines and will recommend them what should be done to avoid fines: "A Good Driving Skills".
3. Business continuity
- How online business can survive in case of power outage or other disasters?
Note that you are requested to focus on the use of technologies into the proposed plan, but not the discussion of actual system design. The following two tips help prepare a better report:
- Try to explain the technologies such as camera to process real time images, in your own words, making them easy to be understood by general audiences.
- Write the technologies in the context of MART, making them practical and appealing to the company executives.
The report should be well researched and written in accordance with Harvard referencing style. The length of the assignment is 2000 words.
The report structure should be clear, easy to read and logical, directly addressing the questions. Suitable headers should be used throughout the report. Good use of graphics and charts should be made. Do not COPY and PASTE Diagrams from sources. Please use drawing tools to redraw your diagrams.
No spelling, punctuation or grammatical errors. The main body of the report should include the following topics.
Executive Summary: You are required to provide brief but comprehensive synopsis of your proposal, which highlights its key points.
Introduction: You are required to introduce the topic of the report in an extremely engaging manner which arouses the reader's interest. You are required to give a detailed general background that indicates the overall "plan" of the report.
Discussion of topics: You are required to discuss the following topics in depth. Your discussion should display deep analysis of issues with no irrelevant info.
