A hot piece of copper (cc = 386J/kg·K) of mass mc = 3kg and unknown initial temperature Tc is dropped into a container of water (cw = 4186 J/kg · K) of mass mw = 1 kg and initial temperature Tw = 293 K . By the time the system has reached equilibrium, ?mw = 0.1kg of the water has been converted to steam (Tv = 373K and Lv = 2.26 × 106 J/kg ).
