Q. Piano tuners tune pianos by listening to the beats between the harmonics of two different strings. While properly tuned, the note A must have the frequency 440 Hz} and the note E must be at 659 Hz}. The tuner can find out this by listening to the beats between the third harmonic of the A and the second harmonic of the E.
Part A: A tuner first tunes the A string very precisely by matching it to a 440 Hz tuning fork. She after that strikes the A and E strings simultaneously and listens for beats between harmonics. What beat frequency indicates that the E string is properly tuned?
Part B: The tuner starts with the tension in the E string a little low, after that tightens it. What is the frequency of the E string while she hears four beats per second?
Assume a small child rolls off a bed that is 0.38m above the floor. If the floor is hardwood, the child's head is brought to rest in approximately 2.2mm. If the floor is carpeted, this stopping distance is increased to about 1.1cm.
A driver in a car travelling at the speed of 78 km/h sees a cat km away on the road. How long will it take for the car to accelerate uniformly to a stop in exactly 99 m.
A person lifts a 5kg cement block a vertical distance of 2.3m and after that aeries the block horizontally a distance of 6m. Determine the work completed by the person and by the force of gravity in this process.
After being accelerated to a speed of 1.26×105 m/s, the particle enters a uniform magnetic field of strength 2.00 T and travels in a circle of radius 35.0 cm (determined by observing where it hits the screen). The results of this experiment allow one..
What current is required in the windings of a long solenoid that has 1710 turns uniformly dispersed over a length of 0.547 m in order to produce a magnetic field of magnitude 0.0002 T at the center of the solenoid.
A simple harmonic oscillator consists of a block of mass 2.2kg attached to a spring of spring constant 26N/m. When t = 1.60 s, the position and velocity of the block are x = 0.128m and v = 3.170 m/s. (a) What is the amplitude of the oscillations? ..
What is the apparent weight of a 75 kg astronaut.
Compute the average number of ion pairs produced along the entire paths of 12.0 MeV electrons that are brought to rest in air. Would number of ion pairs produced in soft tissue be significantly different.
calculate the speed of the block at the instant the dielectric leaves the capacitor assuming it starts at rest and that the voltage across the capacitor after the dielectric is removed is measured to be 900 V.
A bag of blood with a density of 1050 kg/m^3 is raised about 1.00m higher than the level of a patient's arm. How much greater is blood pressure at the patient's arm than it would be if the bag were at the same height as the arm.
A total of 34 bright and 34 dark Newton's rings (not counting the dark spot at the center) are observed as 550 -nm light falls normally on a planoconvex lens resting on a flat glass surface. How much broad is the center than the edges.
