Question 1. Compile a list of reference groups you use to define your self-concepts. You can recognize them by answering several questions:
o Select an area in which you compare yourself to others. (For example, is the comparison wealth, intelligence, physical attribute or social skill?)
o In the selected area, determine your reference groups by asking:
• "Which people am I better or worse than?"
• "Which people am I the same or different from?

Question 2. Then ask yourself and provide an answer to the following questions:
o What is the effect of using these groups as a basis for judging yourself?
o How might you view yourself differently if you used other reference groups as basis for comparison?
