In the introduction to pharmacology, you learned important concepts related to the pharmaceutical industry. Because it is a business as well as a service, you will notice advertisements for pharmacologic agents everywhere!
For this discussion, you will search popular magazines or newspapers, or utilize an internet search to find a drug advertisement and prepare a brief assessment of the ad that addresses each of the prompts below.
1) Briefly describe the ad you found (and/or provide a link to it).
2) What is the drug being advertised? What is it used to treat?
3) How does the ad draw the viewer's attention?
4) Who is this ad targeted toward (consumer, physician, elderly, etc.)?
5) How is it designed to appeal to the identified target audience?
6) Is there any attempt to deceive individuals viewing the ad?
Part II
Visit or call a pharmacy to get a cost comparison of any prescription drug by its trade or brand name and by its generic name. You may also go online to obtain this information. It is important that you use the same quantity and dosage for both the generic and trade medication in making your comparisons. It will be interesting to see the difference between the cost of a trade drug versus its generic counterpart. Keep in mind, pharmacies also differ in prices.
When you have obtained the drug information, answer the following questions in your initial post:
1) What is the drug's brand or trade name?
2) What is the generic name?
