A car traveling at a speed of 18 m/s crashes into a solid concrete wall. The driver has a mass of 90 kg.

a) What is the change in momentum of the driver as he comes to a stop?

b) What impulse is required to produce this change in momentum?

c) Consider two situations. First, the car did not have an airbag so that the stop was abrupt and took ?t = 0.1 ms. In second case, there was an airbag in the car, which made the stop cushioned and took ?t = 10 ms. Find the force that acted on the driver in case 1, F1, and in case 2, F2. What conclusion can you make from your calculations?
