Case Study: George has been a recreational athlete throughout high school and participated in basketball and baseball. Now that he is done with these sports and has started college, he is looking into starting a bodybuilding program to increase his lean muscle mass and improve his physique. He is confident in his approach to weight training, but needs guidance with his nutrition, specifically with protein since he knowns this is very important for his goals. Answer the following questions using evidence from lecture, along with any sources that you deem appropriate (if using sources, please cite them using APA format).

Questions:

(1) Discuss the daily amount of protein needed by a resistance-trained athlete and how that protein should be distributed throughout a 24-hour period.

(2) Utilizing this review and discussion from Precision Nutrition, discuss the differences between Whey and Casein protein and when they should be used, if at all.

(3) What is the rationale for including protein (amino acids) in a sports drink intended to be consumed during and/or post-exercise?

(4) How is it possible for an athlete to consume 25 percent of his or her diet as protein, yet be deficient in protein intake?

(5) Are there any benefits to drinking chocolate milk post-workout? Will it support muscle protein synthesis? Are there alternatives that provide advantages over chocolate milk?
