At the 2008 Summer Olympics, Swedish wrestler Ara Brahamian became incensed when a disputed penalty call went against him in his semifinal match. He did not advance to the gold medal round, although he did win the bronze medal. During the medal ceremony, he removed the bronze medal from around his neck and angrily dropped it on the mat as he walked away. He did not take part in the rest of the ceremony. The IOC stripped him of the medal, on the basis that he made what amounted to a political gesture that was disrespectful to his fellow athletes.

This is a two part question:
