Assignment:

Activity 2: Defining the C. difficile problem and citation methods

Use the Clark College Library databases to find a peer-reviewed resource on Clostridium difficile infection and how it is treated. I recommend looking for REVIEW papers when trying to find background information on a topic.

*You can use Endnote's pairing with MS Word to create easy citations and bibliographies. Here is tutorial: LINK and a video on how to use EndNote with MS word. Or you can complete this section by hand.

Find another resource of your choosing that will help you understand the scope of the C. diff infection issues and how FMT treatments work.

Add both your resources to your Endnote Web account (you may need to figure out how to cite non-journal article resources in Endnote).

1. Write a 7-10 sentence summary incorporating the three questions found below in instruction 5. Additionally:

• Use APA 7th edition or use Endnote, which has APA 7th* for all citations in this assignment (note: Endnote will automatically manage this for you with a feature called "Cite-while-you-write". More information about this in question 1)
• Please include one parenthetical or narrative citation (LINK) for each resource used, for a minimum of two resources.
• Please include a bibliography that includes every resource you cited
• Include the resources you found in steps 1 and 2 above and the paper from your prelab if you use it to answer a question.

2. Answer these three questions in a single 7-10 sentence paragraph:

• What is Clostridium difficile and why is it a problem?
• What is a fecal microbiota transplant?
• Why is C. difficile treated with FMT?

Activity 3: Create a 2-resource annotated bibliography

Sometimes when scientists are preparing to work on a project, it is necessary to find a lot of resources that might be useful later. One method we use to gather and curate those resources is called an annotated bibliography. This is where we look for resources we might need to use, quickly read through them to create a summary, and put them into a document that allows us to see what resources we have and what topics those resources cover quickly at a later date.

Here is a resource on what an annotated bibliography is and how to create one of your own. Endnote can be a very useful tool in helping you to create this type of resource since it allows you to add bibliographical information to work documents quickly from your online account.

1. Use your two C. diff resources from Activity 2. Follow the guide on annotated bibliographies using the APA 8th edition format (If you use EndNote to do this, it will be in APA 7th).

2. Start your bibliography with the two resources you already found above including a 5-7 sentence summary of each resource including:

• The main idea of the resource
• 3-5 main points made by the resource
• Why this resource will be useful later

*Note* You can and should use Endnote's connectivity to Microsoft Word to help you complete the picture-perfect and style-compliant annotated bibliography you desire: LINK. However, if you want to do more work, you are welcome to arrange your annotated bibliography by hand.
