Choose one of the following questions and write 750-1000 words (3-4 pages) on the topic. All sources, including Sparks, must be cited and referenced in APA format.

1. Did Europeans force the slave trade on their African counterparts in Anomabo? Please comment on the power dynamics present in Anomabo to examine the extent to which a clearly defined racial hierarchy determined the trade in humans in West Africa.

2. European and American merchants trading in Anomabo confronted the "pawn system" of trading, a peculiar system of using humans as pawn to facilitate the exchange of trade goods from Europe for African captives. Was this system detrimental to European interests in this region and, by implication, favorable to African merchants engaged in the trade? Why or why not?

3. What factors caused the decline of Anomabo's role in the Transatlantic Slave Trade? Why?
