Question: Bertha is a 10-day old infant girl who at birth presented with ambiguous genitalia. She was brought to the Emergency Dept. on the advice of her pediatrician for further work-up since her newborn screening result showed an elevated level of 17a-hydroxyprogesterone. On PE, she was hypotensive and her lab results showed hyponatremia and hyperkalemia. Congenital adrenal hyperplasia is being considered.
