In the third segment of Marshall Berman's book, All That Is Solid Melts into Air, he writes about Baudelaire, a writer on modernity in the nineteenth century. Baudelaire writes about his "visions" (134) of modernity, which have accurately progressed to our own modern day. In one of his visions, the poem "The Eyes of the Poor", Baudelaire describes two lovers sitting at a café, on the boulevard and their different views of a poor family and how it affects the male's view of his lover, leading him to an eventual feeling of hatred towards her.
