Homework: Legal
Your homework this week is to identify and research an topic of interest to you that impacts a client's ability to access justice and to prepare a short discussion board response about what you learned. You may choose from any topic related to the Future of Legal Services and Access to Justice.
Selecting a Topic
In choosing your topic, consider the ones we discussed in class around the future of legal services including attorney competence and licensure, de-regulation (or re-regulation) of legal services, the impact of technology on legal services, trauma-informed care, multicultural lawyering, the quality of justice and client-centered lawyering, and/or the need for a more diverse and inclusive profession.
You may choose any access-to-justice topic of interest to you including a topic that we did not specifically discuss as a part of this course.
Research
After you have selected your topic, you will research your topic and develop recommendations on how the legal profession should respond to the access-to-justice issue raised by your topic. You will prepare a discussion board response including your research and recommendations.
The content of your discussion board response should address the following:
I. Describe the topic you selected. Why did you choose that topic? What access-to-justice problems or challenges does the topic present to the practice of law? Why are you personally concerned about it? Get the instant assignment help.
II. Summarize the research that you did on your topic. What did you learn about the topic in your research? What data did you find to support that it is something the legal profession should be concerned about?
III. Describe three things that lawyers can and should do to address the problems or challenges your topic raises to ensure access to justice. Explain why you chose the three things that you did.
IV. Based upon what you have learned about the topic you researched, reflect on the way we educate and train law students and lawyers. Do you believe we should rethink the way we train law students and lawyers to better prepare them to address the problems or challenges you researched? Why or why not? And if you believe we should train law students and lawyers differently, what would you recommend?
