Case Study: You are caring for Larry Williams, a 49-year-old African American male. He arrived at the emergency department accompanied by his mother, Maxine. He complains of severe headaches with chest pain. He is in hypertensive crisis with a BP of 205/120 mmHg. He is afebrile and appears well-kept. He rates his pain a 6/10, and this is the first time he has had chest pain. The problem started 6 hours ago.
Social history( from Larry and mother) Larry is a lawyer that works with high-profile clients. He admits to having a "high-stress" job. He reports a moderately active lifestyle and admits riding his bike 2-3 times a week when the weather is nice. His BMI is 27. Larry works 80-hour weeks frequently. His assistant will bring meals for him from various restaurants around his law office. He does not have any food restrictions and eats whatever he likes. He reports sleeping 4-5 hours a night on average. He denies illicit drug use, drinks socially (3 glasses of red wine a week), and admits to occasional tobacco use when he is "stressed." He admits he went to the doctor last year and was diagnosed with hypertension but is not consistently taking his medication. Maxine says that Larry "works too much" and does not take the time to care for himself. He lives alone.
